The industry maintains stable and sustainable development
During the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, the industry scale remained stable, with the annual total output value exceeding 1.5 trillion yuan.
According to customs statistics, in 2019, my country’s hardware products industry achieved a total import and export volume of US$145.181 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%, of which total exports were US$119.45 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.66%; total imports were US$25.731 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3.6%.
Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, imports and exports fluctuated greatly. Exports shrank significantly in the first half of the year and began to rebound after the second half. The total import and export volume for the year was US$148.988 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.44%. Among them, the export value was US$124.451 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.06%, and the import value was US$24.536 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%.
The number of enterprises above designated size in the industry exceeds 10,000, producing a number of leading enterprises with annual sales of more than 10 billion yuan, as well as key enterprises with annual sales of more than 5 billion yuan. It has made great contributions to the country’s economic and social development and the improvement of people’s living standards.

Gradually realize from quantitative expansion to qualitative improvement
In recent years, under the guidance of the high-quality development policy, China’s hardware products industry has continuously improved its quality awareness and made significant progress in quality levels during the implementation of the “three-product strategy”.
Many companies have won national, provincial and ministerial quality awards; completed the “Quality Management Current Situation and Quality Management Research Report in the Hardware Products Industry” and put forward policy recommendations for quality management improvement in my country’s hardware products industry; targeting industries such as smart locks and integrated kitchens. A quality improvement action plan was launched and a number of quality benchmark enterprises were launched, which served as a demonstration and driving role.
Standardization work continues to advance. By the end of 2020, 72 national hardware standards and 277 industry standards have been completed. 37 group standards have been formulated, of which 35 have been published and 2 are in the process of being formulated. It supports and leads the technological development direction of the hardware industry, accelerates the implementation and application of standards, improves product quality and consumer experience, and creates an international quality benchmark for Made in China.

Technology continues to advance and innovation results are remarkable
The industry’s technological progress and independent innovation level continue to improve, and remarkable results have been achieved in the development and application of new technologies, new processes, and new materials. In the past five years, the Internet, Internet of Things, 5G, big data and other technological means have developed rapidly, driving the in-depth integration of the hardware industry and intelligence. During this period, new hardware products continued to increase and gradually matured. Emerging categories such as smart locks, zero-cold water gas water heaters, multi-function dishwashers, integrated sinks, and smart kitchens have become popular in the market and are welcomed by consumers.
At present, the industry has a total of 16 national-level enterprise technology centers, and the number of national-level industrial design centers has increased to 11. There are 7 individual champion companies in the manufacturing industry, 3 China Light Industry Science and Technology Invention Awards, 26 Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 48 companies have been shortlisted for the “Guide to Upgrading and Innovating Consumer Goods (Light Industry)”. 20 companies were awarded the title of Top Ten Enterprises in Light Industry, 13 companies were awarded the title of Top 100 Enterprises in Light Industry, and 7 enterprises were awarded the title of Top 100 Enterprises in China Light Industry Science and Technology. 98 product models of 58 range hood companies and 57 product models of 38 range hood companies were awarded the title of “Efficient Purification and Environmental Protection Star”.

Improve brand influence
During the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, the hardware industry’s brand concentration increased and its market influence expanded. In daily hardware, cooking utensils, locks, gas appliances, range hoods, kitchen equipment, bathroom and other industries mainly related to civilian use, a number of brands with good reputation, strong competitiveness and high user loyalty have been formed; in tool hardware, Categories involving production and construction such as building hardware have formed brands with high visibility and influence in the industry; hidden champion companies that rank among the best in the world have emerged throughout the industry; some powerful companies have acquired a number of internationally renowned brands; There are also a number of companies that have successfully listed on the capital market.

Digital transformation shows initial results
The transformation and upgrading of the industry has entered a deep-water zone, and key backbone enterprises have gradually taken steps towards the integration of informatization and digital transformation. Excellent enterprises in the industry have successively carried out enterprise process design and optimization to promote the high integration of various business systems and improve enterprise resource allocation and response speed; through the application of Internet of Things technology and the application of industrial robots, automation, and intelligent equipment, the intelligent controllability of manufacturing equipment has been improved capabilities, further getting rid of the constraints of the traditional labor-intensive model on production capacity and efficiency, and achieving further improvements in efficiency and quality. The emergence of the epidemic last year has made consumers deepen their use of Internet channels, and companies have accelerated the transformation of digital channels such as e-commerce and social media.

Improvement of development level of characteristic areas
Facing the complex and ever-changing international environment and the domestic economic situation with increasing downward pressure, the construction of characteristic regions in the hardware products industry has effectively promoted the transformation, upgrading and structural adjustment of the industry, and significantly improved the construction and development level of characteristic regional economies and public service platforms. . The sales revenue of industrial clusters in some regions has reached more than half of the sales revenue of local enterprises, and the supporting role of industrial clusters in regional economies has become increasingly obvious. Infrastructure construction and development are becoming more professional and increasingly improved, and their role as a pillar in the regional economy and in supporting industry development are becoming increasingly prominent.
At the same time, great progress has also been made in the construction of regional brands, product innovation, intelligent manufacturing and scientific and technological information services. According to incomplete statistics, the total industrial production value of specialty products in 54 industrial clusters in the industry has exceeded 720 billion yuan, employing about 2.7 million people, and the total number of production enterprises is nearly 80,000. The average annual growth rate of total industrial production value remain at 6%.
